Adama
Role for the ETIC Project
- President of the ICVolunteers Federation
Background
Adama Samassékou was born in 1946 in Mali. He was, until 2009, President, with ministerial rank, of the African Academy of Languages (ACALAN). Between July 2002 and December 2003, he served as the President of the PrepCom of the Geneva phase of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS). Previously, he was Malian Minister of Education (1993-2000) and former spokesperson for the Government of Mali (1997-2000). Since 2003, he is a member of the Haut Conseil de la Francophonie. He holds a Master of Arts in philology and linguistics from Lomonossov State University in Moscow, DEA postgraduate diploma in African linguistics from Sorbonne and a DESS specialist postgraduate diploma in organizational science from the Université de Paris-IX (Dauphine). He was Head of the Linguistic Department of the Institute of Human Sciences of Mali, then Director of the National Library of Mali and Adviser to the Minister in charge of Culture.
Bayni

Background
Bayni Soumaila Traoré is a Lawyer and Educator in the field of Human Rights and Citizenship. He graduated from Ecole Nationale d'Administration of Bamako in 1995 with a degree in Legal Sciences (Private Law). He devotes much of his time to the movements and activities of civil society in general and youth in particular. He is a founding member of Conseil National de la Jeunesse of Mali (2000), CJA (Coalition Jeunesse Action) (2008), as well as a number of other organizations working in the field of citizen action and promotes volunteerism. He is the founding president of CONJEDEV (Convention des Jeunes pour le Développement) (1996) which works with more than 300 volunteers throughout Mali. Since 2006, Bayni is also the president of ICVolunteers’ national office in Mali, ICV-Mali. For the Malian Government, Bayni was nominated for the high office of elected members of the Economic, Social and Cultural Council, where he represents youth. He currently works for the Ministry of Labor, for Civil Service and State Reform, as a lawyer and is the Technical Adviser to the Economic, Social and Cultural Council of Mali (since April 2009).
Claire

Background
Claire vient de Phoenix aux Etat-Unis et elle est étudiante en français et en sociologie. Elle est venue au Sénégal pour un semestre d'études à l'Université Cheikh Anta Diop. Elle a participé aux travaux de recherche et aux traductions de textes pour le projet ETIC au printemps 2010.
Djibril
Role for the ETIC Project
- Initiator and Advisor of the Project
Background
Djibril is originally from Dakar. He acquired a Ph.D. from the University of Geneva and has worked with ICVolunteers for a number of years. He also worked as a project developer with Appartenances, a non-profit organization based in Lausanne, Switzerland, focusing on community interpretation for immigrants who need assistance with language services in a medical context.
Fee
Role for the ETIC Project
- Involved in data collection
- Has a background in private sector and import / export, for this reason, can help with info collection and data flow
Background
Fee is originally from Iran. He has spent a number of years in New York, where he managed a transport company. He has extensive experience with import / export, including rice in West Africa.
Jessica
Role for the ETIC Project
- Coordination of local data collection in Senegal (2 to 3 locations, including Guede Chantier)
- Background research about farming practices (conventional vs. organic farming, markets, food chains, etc.)
Background
Jessica is an exchange student from Boston, Brandeis University, The Heller School for Social Policy and Management. Her thesis focuses on agricultural practices in India and Senegal. She is particularly interested in food value chains, organic farming and practices that can take into consideration long-term benefits for local farmers, populations and countries in their whole.
Jim
Role for the ETIC Project
- Background research about different web applications
- Development of the FOSS Solution for the E-TIC website
- Assistance with the improvement of the existing EREV website
- Assistance with the learning of Drupal at EREV
Background
After spending his formative years in the States, Jim Rudolf moved to Europe in 1990, and he thinks he'll stick around for a while. He spent the first half of his career working at software firms in the U.S. and Europe, with forays into User Interface Design, Corporate Design and Information Design. Jim is now self-employed, and he plans to spend the second half of his career adding Sustainability and International Development to the list of topics that he professes to know a little bit about.
Lwiise
Role for the ETIC Project
- In charge of human and volunteer resources
- In charge of conference services and management
Background
Lwiise has been working as a Project Manager for ICV since 2006. She coordinates conference services and is in charge of the team dealing with human resources and recruitment. Before joining ICV, Lwiise has worked for different private sector companies, including one involved in trading and the stock exchange. She is originally from Tanzania.
Marian
Role for the ETIC Project
- Director of EREV - involved in the local coordination of activities in Senegal
Background
Marian has spent her life as a university professor in the United States of America, where she specialized in food systems, among other things. At age 60, she moved to Yoff, Senegal, where she started an NGO linking Eco-villages and education around sustainable development. She has many years of experience in proposal writing, academic research methodology, as well as team management of various non-profit organizations.

Miranda
Role for the ETIC Project
- Membre de l'équipe d'ETIC à Tombouctou
Background
Miranda est d'origine candienne. Elle est arrivée comme volontaire de la paix en Mauritanie, où elle a véçu pendant quatre ans. Elle s'est ensuite installée à Tombouctou où elle vit avec Shindouk Lamine, coordinateur d'ETIC dans la région du nord du Mali. Miranda est également l'auteur d'un livre sanitaire illustré et a monté, avec son mari, l'auberge Sahara Passion de Tombouctou.

Background
Montse has worked in the telecom business before joining ICV, including for a number of years in the United Kingdom (England and Ireland). She speaks Spanish and Catalan and is based in Barcelona.
Mostapha

- Trainer for students, and developer of training modules for future Drupal students at EREV
- Developer of training modules, in conjunction with Jim, for Community Radio Journalists
Background
Mostapha teaches programming and communications at the EREV Institute in Yoff.

Papa lives in Bamako and is involved in the coordination of ICV-Mali.
Peter

Background
Peter has a broadly based telecoms consultant who has an unusual mix of telecommunications, technical, regulatory, marketing and project management expertise gained in the telecommunications industry as a consultant, supplier and end user both in the UK and overseas. He has worked for a number of organisations including: Cambridge Consultants [ADL], Logica, Digital and Cornwell Management Consultants and has undertaken assignments for the World Bank , EBRD and the EU. His project management experience ranges from research and development through to the installation of telecommunications networks where the work has included the system design, specification and installation of equipment.

Randy
Role for the ETIC Project

Background
Randy Schmieder has a background in communication, science and the visual arts. He is the founder and director of MCART, an organization that offers communication services. Before founding MCART, Randy worked with the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), BioSystems Books, Inc., and the University of California. He helped develop the first scientific conference held on the Internet (USDOI), and with the 12th World AIDS Conference, produced the award-winning aids98.ch online news service that reached over 13,000 participants internally and hundreds of thousands externally. Randy holds an MA-equivalent in Science Communication and a BA with Honors in Biology and Environmental Studies from the University of California Santa Cruz.
Shindouk

- Miranda, Shindouk's wife, is the author of a book of short stories about health issues available in Pulaar, French, Arabic and English,
Background
Shindouk is the Chief of a Tuareg Community of 1,500 called Ouladnagim. This nomadic lives today as it always has on its territory around a water point and a school built beyond Timbuktu. Nomadic camp located 120 km North of Timbuktu, on the caravan salt route to Taoudunit (Azalahi), this Bérabish tribe is of Berber origin and part of the Tuareg community. Viola

Background
Viola Krebs is the Founder and Executive Director of ICVolunteers. With a background in socio-linguistics, she has many years of experience with international project management in the field of communications and media, including in a development context (Africa, Latin America and Asia). She is a member of the Strategy Council of the United Nations Global Alliance for ICT and Development (GAID), chaired several international conferences, and served from 2003 to 2005 on the Civil Society Bureau of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS). She has worked in both the public and the private sector, including for People Living with HIV/AIDS (PWA), the World Economic Forum and Merrill Lynch. Viola Krebs is a Swiss national and holds a Masters in Communications and Media, a Bachelor in Linguistics, Spanish and English of the University of Geneva. She is now working on a Ph.D. focusing on the impact of the Internet on volunteers and volunteerism.
