Interview 14: Is it possible to be prepared?
- If Japan / USA are such prepared nations, how come it is possible they have been so ill prepared?
- What can be done to be prepared? What are the main strategies, risks and issues to be taken into consideration?
Early warning systems: Mr. Francois Gerard from France warned that although early warning systems are very much needed, sometimes they can lull us into a false sense of safety. Efficiency of these should be investigated in order to be able to take preventive measures. (Session 16)
(Session 2.1, Tue 10 May) Many panel members gave strong closing statements, such as Dr. Love's who reminded us that “after every disaster, a window opens when you can make changes”. Ms. Wahlström asked people to remain engaged, and to avoid basing future planning on yesterday's emergencies.
